FICHA_GO_Producción ecológica de arroz en zonas con limitaciones naturales como el delta del Ebro
Actualmente la superficie de arroz ecológico en el Delta del Ebro no llega al 2%. Esto se debe a la gran dificultad en que se encuentra el sector arrocero del Delta del Ebro para ser competitivo a la hora de obtener un rendimiento viable y sostenible a lo largo de los años en las parcelas donde se cultiva arroz ecológico. El principal problema es la infestación de malas hierbas que se manifiesta en los campos de cultivo al cabo de unos años de producir arroz ecológico. Esto hace que los costes en mano de obra para retirar malezas crezcan exponencialmente año tras año y hace que las parcelas de arroz queden infestadas de semillas de malas hierbas. Por otro lado, queremos encontrar soluciones al control de enfermedades fúngicas y plagas que afectan severamente al cultivo evaluando la respuesta de distintas variedades. También hay que tener en cuenta un factor tan limitante como es la elevada salinidad de los suelos en el Delta del Ebro. Esta salinidad se convierte en un condicionante a la hora de definir estrategias de cultivo y prácticas agronómicas sobre el manejo del agua, laboreo de tierras, manejo de malas hierbas y tipología de las siembras y/o estrategias de plantado. Por último, también se pretende evaluar el impacto de todas las estrategias sobre la biodiversidad en las parcelas de cultivo para conseguir una mejora del sistema agrario en el entorno del Delta del Ebro.

A Bio-inspired Multilayer Drainage System
Agricultural run-off and subsurface drainage tiles transport a significant amount of nitrogen and phosphorus leached after fertilization. alchemia-nova GmbH in collaboration with University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna developed two multi-layer vertical filter systems to address the agricultural run-off issue, which has been installed on the slope of an agricultural field in Mistelbach, Austria. While another multi-layer addressing subsurface drainage water is implemented in Gleisdorf, Austria. The goal is to develop a drainage filter system to retain water and nutrients. Both multi-layer filter systems contain biochar and other substrates with adsorption properties of nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus). The filter system can be of practical use if an excess of nutrients being washed out is of concern in the fields of the practitioner by keeping the surrounding waters clean. This approach may result in economic value by re-using the saturated biochar as fertilizer and improving the soil structure, thus increasing long-term soil fertility.
