Opschaling van houtbouw vormt een belangrijk middel bij het behalen van klimaatdoelen en biedt tegelijkertijd kansen voor de ambitie van de realisering van nieuwe woningen. Maar wat is eigenlijk de oorsprong van ons bouwhout en welke mogelijkheden zijn er voor opschaling? Stichting Probos zocht het samen met Centrum Hout uit in opdracht van RvO. Naar schatting is slechts 5% van het houtverbruik voor materiaaltoepassing afkomstig uit Nederland (8% voor bouwhout), waarmee we verreweg het grootste deel importeren uit overige landen. Van ons geïmporteerde bouwhout komt ongeveer 80% uit Europa, overwegend uit landen met een hoog aandeel gecertificeerd bos. Tot slot is de jaarlijkse bijgroei in het Europese bos aanzienlijk hoger dan de jaarlijkse oogst (circa 65% van bijgroei), wat mogelijkheden biedt om onder bepaalde voorwaarden de houtoogst op te schalen.

The BIOEAST Initiative was founded by the Ministers of Agriculture of Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania and Slovenia. The BIOEAST Initiative represents the common political commitment and shared strategic research and innovation framework for working towards sustainable and circular bioeconomies in the CEE countries.
This case study is drafting new legislation that allows renting forestland for multiple purposes in order to increase economic efficiency and maintain a balance between all ecosystem services. This Russian case works on regulation mechanisms so that people renting forestland can use it for multiple purposes, and to include ecosystem services in the Forest Code.
