Purpose built roosting buildings for lesser horseshoe bats to provide a critical link between larger populations

"The lesser horseshoe bat population is small, approximately 13,000 bats, confined to six western Irish counties. Habitat fragmentation caused by changes in land use has created significant distribution gaps for this bat species, confined to six western counties in Ireland. The Mulkear project area was strategically chosen as Limerick’s small population of lesser horseshoe bats serves as a critical link between larger populations in Counties Kerry and Clare. The vegetated river corridors in the region offer potential pathways for bat movement. Monitoring by VWT detected lesser horseshoe bats near the proposed sites for new roost sites. Six purpose-built roosting buildings were designed and constructed on farmland in 2022, based on architectural plans prioritising solar gain and secure fencing to ensure long-term viability. Participating farmers contributed to biodiversity conservation by allocating productive agricultural land for the project, aligning with the objectives of Irish CAP schemes, which promote balancing agricultural productivity with environmental stewardship. https://vimeo.com/810881674 "

    NANOCELLULOSE MEMBRANES FOR NUTRIENT RECOVERY

    Document

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under Grant Agreement No 858735This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under Grant Agreement No 858735. FACTSHEET NANOCELLULOSE MEMBRANES FOR NUTRIENT RECOVERY Key information Functionalized nanocellulose membranes can take up nitrate and phosphate. These membranes can be put in a water treatment unit. As the membranes are biobased, degradable materials, they can after use be added to the soil, thus returning the leached nutrients back for their original purpose providing fertilizers (nutrient recycling).

Club GREY HORSE – Providing multiple ecosystems services by forest renters

    Document

This case study is drafting new legislation that allows renting forestland for multiple purposes in order to increase economic efficiency and maintain a balance between all ecosystem services. This Russian case works on regulation mechanisms so that people renting forestland can use it for multiple purposes, and to include ecosystem services in the Forest Code.

    Final Report on Cross Visits

    Document

It summarises the reports from all Cross Visits. During the Cross Visits the AgriSpin team gradually learned how to capture what really matters in the cases that were visited. It is important that the characteristics in the overview are helpful for: ● deepening the understanding of the individual cases and the effect of particular innovation support actions; ● making comparisons between cases, even though they represent different sectors and cover different types of innovation.
